Things You'll Need
Instructions
Set the photo up to allow yourself to take advantage of natural lighting or use soft yellow light. Harsh white light can place shadows and create edges on your subject that will take away the natural softness of a child's features. This type of lighting can defeat your purpose before you even snap a shot. Soft yellow light or natural lighting from in front of your subject or from the back can enhance the softness typical of a dreamy setting and will keep shadows off your subject's face.
Position the child in your photograph in such a way that the innocence and dreaminess are accented. Hands clasped together beneath the chin, with the child looking slightly to the left or right of the camera is one pose that can set the mood.
Shoot a soft focus background using a softening filter. With the child in the forefront and a slightly blurred or misty background, the photograph will suggest dreaming and help enhance the pose and the dreamy effect.
