How to Tie a Climbing Net

Climbing nets can be used on an obstacle course or a recreational playground to provide a place for children to climb. The net is designed so that a leg or limb will get caught in the net to prevent falling if balance is lost. You can also find nets of this type used for indoor exercises in a gymnasium or as a safety device for military training. To make a climbing net of your own, a template for the cells is needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure a 15 cm by 15 cm square on the plywood sheet with the ruler. Mark the corners of the square using the felt tip marker. Measure and mark 7.5 cm between the top and bottom marks.

    • 2

Hammer a nail into each mark with the hammer. This gives you the peg board to construct the net.

    • 3

Wrap the rope around four nails on the left side of the peg board. Tie the first knot at the nail that is in the upper left corner. This will create the first cell for the net.

    • 4

Run the rope to the middle nail and tie a second knot. Wrap the rope around the nails on the left for the second cell of the net. Tie a knot at the middle nail on the bottom.

    • 5

Remove the rope from top left and top middle nails. Move the rope up and fix the bottom left edge and the lower middle knot on the nails.

    • 6

Run the rope down to the lower middle knot and back to the top left nail. Tie a knot to complete a third cell.

    • 7

Remove and reposition the rope on the nails. Run the rope to tie another cell. Repeat this process until you have created the number of cells required for the net.
