How to Make a Fort With Paper and Cardboard

Forts have the potential to create a whole new world in the comfort of your own living room. Even with the most basic supplies, like cardboard and paper, the possibilities are endless. Large boxes like the ones for refrigerators and televisions are great to use as a main structure while smaller boxes and pieces can be taped together.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold any boxes so all flaps are open and movable. Assess the amount of supplies you have and use the largest box as the main room or duct tape three pieces of cardboard together to make a large tent.

    • 2

Build off of the main room by duct-taping more pieces of cardboard to the flaps of the first box, or the sides of the tent. Use the box cutters to cut apart boxes and pieces of board as needed.

    • 3

Build tunnels that can crawl through and stack boxes up to make larger spaces that you can sit in. Leave spaces in the cardboard to use as entrances and exits. Use up as much of your cardboard as you can.

    • 4

Cut into the sides of the cardboard to make windows and ceiling vents. You can cover the spaces made by the cuts with pieces of colored paper that will change the color of the light let into the fort.

    • 5

Decorate the fort by cutting pieces of colored paper to make curtains, fringes and decorations for the sides of the cardboard and windows. Make flags and tape to the top corners of the boxes. Paint on the outside of the cardboard walls with unique designs and patterns.

    • 6

Enter the fort and explore the new world you have created.
