How to Operate a Brushless DC Motor

Brushless motors often offer more power and greater durability than their counterparts with brushes. By eliminating the brushes that normally deliver electricity from the motor leads to the rotating commutator inside, brushless motors require less maintenance and are less prone to wear and tear.

Things You'll Need

  • Brushless motor
  • Electronic Speed Control (ESC)
  • Receiver
  • Battery
  • Transmitter

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the three wires leading from the motor into the three motor connectors of the electronic speed control (ESC). It does not matter how you connect them.

    • 2

Connect the two battery wires of the ESC to the battery. Match positive (red) and negative (black). Plug in the ESC's 3-pin connector into the first channel of the receiver.

    • 3

Turn on the transmitter and the ESC, then apply forward throttle. If the motor turns the wrong way, reverse any two of the three motor wires to correct it.
