How to Fix a Wakeboard With P Tex

P-Tex is a petroleum-based sealant that repairs cracks and dents in composite wake boards as well as snow boards and skis. P-Tex is specifically designed for non-structural "hair line" cracks in the center of boards or chips on the edges, and thus should not be applied to a structurally compromised board. The sealant starts as a stick (called a candle) of hardened material that is melted and spread over the crack to bond the crack back together.

Things You'll Need

  • P-Tex candle
  • Lighter
  • Metal straight edge
  • 320-grit sandpaper
  • Utility knife

Instructions

    • 1

Sharpen the candle to a point with the utility knife to make the tip easier to light.

    • 2

Hold the candle at 45 degrees to the board surface and light the tip of the candle with the lighter until it begins to flame. The candle will burn with a flame throughout the application.

    • 3

Drip the P-Tex over the crack, spinning the candle to avoid a build up of material on one side of it.

    • 4

Fill any gouges until they begin to overflow. When the P-Tex dries, scrape away the overflowed P-Tex with the metal straight edge. Sand the repaired area with 320-grit sand paper to finish the application process. If any micro hairs remain on the repaired surface after sanding, remove them with a scrape of the straight edge.
