How to Make Clown Hair at Home

A clown wig is the perfect accessory for a kid's costume or for an over-the-top sports fan to wear to a game or party. Clown wigs can be very expensive when purchased from a professional manufacturer or costume shop. Finding the right clown wig might also prove to be a challenge, depending on your purpose for the wig. The best way to make sure you get the wig you want at a price you can afford is to make it yourself at home.

Things You'll Need

Yarn
Mesh produce bag
Latch hook needle
Piece of cardboard
Scissors
Elastic

Instructions

  Remove the label from the mesh produce bag using a pair of sharp scissors. Take the edges of the mesh bag and roll them up to form a mesh beanie type hat.

  Use scissors to make a cardboard strip the length you want the clown wig hair to be.

  Take some yarn and wind it around the cardboard piece a few times. Use scissors to cut pieces of yarn the same length as the cardboard piece. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard piece.

  Repeat this process with all the different colors of yarn you are using. Wrapping the yarn around the cardboard will allow you to keep all the different yarn colors separated into strands as you begin to attach them to the produce bag.

  Use a latch hook needle to weave the yarn through the holes in the mesh bag. Hook the yarn around the latch hook needle and push the needle through the holes in the mesh bag.

  Repeat Step 2 until all the holes in the mesh bag are filled with the yarn pieces. Use yarn and your latch hook needle to weave an elastic band around the bottom portion of the mesh bag on the inside of the bag. This will help the wig to fit snugly to your head.
