How to Make Custom Beadlocks for RCs

Radio-controlled (RC) rock crawler vehicles require excessive traction when scaling near-vertical rocks. Since variable terrains require different tires, it is more convenient to have a set of bead-lock rims than several sets of glued wheels. Learn how to make your own custom beadlocks to achieve maximum traction and a unique look for your vehicle.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the hole saw to cut four 5-inch circles from the sheet of plastic.

    • 2

Place the plastic circle over the center of the front face of the rim, then use the 1/16 inch drill bit to put 12 holes around the perimeter of the plastic circle. Drill through the plastic circle and into the rim. Repeat this for all four rims and circles.

    • 3

Connect the rim to the chassis by sliding it onto the shaft, then install the hex nut onto each rim. Press the tires onto the four rims by sliding it over the rim.

    • 4

Hold the plastic circle in position over the rim, then install 12 screws around the perimeter to secure the tire in position. Repeat this for all four wheels.
