How to Build an RC Plane Work Board

Building an RC plane requires a flat surface on which the wing and fuselage sections can be assembled and glued. This building board takes only a few minutes to construct. It makes use of the reverse side of an inexpensive 24- by 48-inch acoustic ceiling tile to provide a smooth surface to which plans and components can be fixed with pins. This will help to ensure that your plane will be built to the proper shape to fly well, as its designer intended.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/4-inch medium density fiberboard sheet
  • Acoustic ceiling tile
  • Spray glue

Instructions

    • 1

Spray glue on one side of the medium density fiberboard sheet and on the finish surface (the shiny white side) of the acoustic ceiling tile. Do not glue the reverse side of the tile; this will be your building surface. Wait about 30 seconds until the two glued surfaces are tacky.

    • 2

Align and place the acoustic tile finish side down on the glued surface of the fiberboard sheet. Gently, but firmly, press the two pieces together using flat palms and working from the center to the edges.

    • 3

Place the assembled board tile side down on a flat, smooth surface. The weight of the fiberboard is enough to hold the two surfaces in contact while the glue cures. After 10 minutes, the building board will be ready to use.
