How to Make a Launcher With Power

The term "Airsoft" comes from the non-gunpowder replica weapons first produced by Japan in the 1980s. You can make an Airsoft-type mortar launcher that will fire a Ping-Pong ball. The power for the launcher will come from a harmless chemical reaction of two products that can be purchased from a grocery store.

Things You'll Need

PVC pipe, 1 foot long, 10 inches in diameter
PVC cap, 10 inches in diameter
Bonding glue
Wooden stick, 8 inches long
Duct tape
Diet soda bottle, 16 ounces.
Rock salt
Ping-Pong ball

Instructions

  Place the PVC pipe horizontally on a table. Apply bonding glue around the rim on one end of the pipe. Place a PVC cap on the end of the pipe that has been glued. Let the glue set overnight.

  Stand the PVC pipe on the table. Angle the top of the PVC pipe down to the right at 45 degrees. Place an end of the wooden stick against the center of the PVC pipe. Tape the end to the pipe with strips of duct tape.

  Go outside. Stand the PVC pipe on the ground. Remove the cap from the soda bottle. Pour out one or two ounces of soda on the ground.

  Stand the bottle on the ground. Drop 3 three pieces of rock salt into the bottle. Screw the cap on halfway.

  Place the bottle in the open end of the PVC pipe that is now a mortar. Drop a Ping-Pong ball into the open end of the pipe.

  Take a few steps back. Wait for a stream of soda to shoot your "mortal shell" out of your Airsoft-type mortar launcher.
