How to Crochet a Shawl Using 3 Giant Granny Squares

Crocheted shawls can help you stay warm on chilly autumn nights and cold winter days. Shawls are a comfortable alternative to sweaters and jackets for anyone who doesn't like wearing constrictive garments. A stylish shawl comprised of three giant granny squares will provide adequate coverage across the body while giving you free range of motion. You can create a flattering crocheted shawl for yourself, or make one to give as a gift .

Instructions

    • 1

Place one square in front of you and rotate it a quarter turn clockwise so the square is positioned as a diamond shape.

    • 2

Rotate the remaining squares using the same method described in the previous step so the squares resemble diamonds. Lay one diamond against the top right side of the first diamond. Position the remaining diamond against the top left side of the first diamond.

    • 3

Single crochet the sides together where the diamonds are met. The shawl will now be in the shape of a V.

    • 4

Crochet a single stitch at a corner, then chain five and join the single crochet stitch. Continue making a chain five single crochet pattern all around the outer edge of the shawl until you get back to the starting point.

    • 5

Create a single stitch in each loop you have already formed, then do three double stitches in the loops following up with another single stitch. You will now have a total of five stitches in each loop that make a decorative ruffling.
