How to Make a Reflective Laser Target

A laser target functions differently than a conventional target, which displays a hole when hit by a projectile. In contrast, a reflective surface on the laser target reflects the beam of the laser at an angle when hit. You can make a laser target using supplies from a hobby shop along with tools commonly found at home. You don't have to wear special protective gear while making the target.

Things You'll Need

  • White cardboard square, 10 by 10 inches
  • Protractor
  • Magic marker, large tip
  • Magic marker, fine tip
  • Reflective tape
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • White glue

Instructions

    • 1

Place the cardboard square on a table. Draw the outline of a circle on the cardboard with a protractor. Indent the protractor so that the next circle will be smaller. Place the point of the protractor inside the circle, next to an edge. Draw another circle inside the first one. Indent the protractor and repeat the procedure to make another circle inside the one just drawn.

    • 2

Make a dot in the very center of the last circle drawn, with a large-tip magic marker. Write the number "50" next to the dot, with a fine-tip magic marker.

    • 3

Write the number 25 next to an edge of the circle surrounding the dot with the fine-tip magic marker. Write the number 10 next to an edge of the next circle with the fine-tip marker. Write the number 5 next to an edge of the outermost circle with the fine-tip marker.

    • 4

Cut seven 1-inch strips of reflective tape with scissors. Apply white glue to the back of each strip of tape. Place a strip of tape on the dot at the center of the laser target you're making.

    • 5

Place a strip of tape across from each other on the outline of the circle surrounding the dot. Repeat this procedure with the next circle surrounding the one that just had the tape applied to it and the outermost circle. Let the glue set for an hour. The laser target is now ready to be taped to a wall and fired at.
