How to Do Duck Mounts

One of the first stages to duck taxidermy is mounting the duck to the mounting board or stand that displays the duck. An effective mount holds the duck in place for many years in a natural-looking position. Before you can position the rest of the duck's body, you must first anchor the feet to the mount. This process takes just a few minutes, but can change the entire appearance of the finished design. Take your time for the best-looking results.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the taxidermy wire down through the legs from the inside of the duck's skin. Extend the wire from the legs 1 inch longer than the width of the mounting base.

    • 2

Place the duck onto the mounting board, positioning the legs in a natural position. Mark the placement of the wires with a pencil or marker.

    • 3

Set the duct aside. Drill the marked areas all the way through the base.

    • 4

Place the duck on the mounting board in the desired position. Pull the leg wires through the holes. Bend the wires to the side to temporarily hold the duck in place.

    • 5

Use a power screwdriver to drill 1-inch wood screws into the holes from the bottom of the base. This helps secure the wire.

    • 6

Bend the extended wires back and forth in your fingers until they break off from the bottom of the mount and leave a flat surface underneath.
