Pick a Web comic generator based on your requirements and the following criteria: the ability to share the comics you create, the ability to create characters from stock illustrations, the capability to insert your own illustrations and graphics, the costs of the platform and the user-friendliness of the tool. Base your choice on the attributes that are important for your project's goals. Play with two to three comic generators before making a decision.
Plan the basic attributes of your comic. Make the comic long form like a graphic novel or short like a comic strip. Use full color or black-and-white images. Write the comic for children or for adults. Pick one type of attribute from these category sets and stick with it. These attributes impact the look, feel and content of your comic.
Draft an overview of your comic book characters. Describe who the key characters are, where they live, what they care about and what they do. Sketch a drawing of your main characters if possible (though this is optional).
Create a storyline for your first Web comic and then write a comic book script. Describe the action and any important scenery in each panel. Include any dialogue, panel by panel. Review completed comic book scripts for reference.
Use the comic book generator you picked to build your first comic. Design each panel based as described in the comic book script. Keep in mind the decisions you made about the attributes of your comic.
Save two copies of your Web comic: one as the first issue and the other as your comic book template. This allows you to edit the template copy for future issues.
