Things You'll Need
Instructions
Put on the protective goggles to protect your eyes. Remove the magazine clip from the butt of the airsoft-type replica pellet gun. Remove any pellets that might be in the clip. Pull the cocking plate of the gun back and upend it to remove any pellet from the firing chamber. Release the cocking plate and place the gun aside.
Place a sheet of newspaper on a work surface. Place 10 to 20 pellets on the newspaper. Shake the can of fluorescent paint for 10 seconds. Spray the pellets with the paint from about six inches away. Let the paint dry for the amount of time specified in the can's instructions.
Rotate the pellets so that the unpainted sides are facing up. Repeat the procedure with the spray can to apply a coating of paint to the other side of the pellets.
Remove the screws from around the clip with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Pull the two sections of the clip apart. Place the section of the clip that does not have the spring mechanism on the work surface face down. Rotate the section of the clip so that it is facing you right side up.
Measure down a 1/2 inch from the upper right edge of the section of the clip. Drill a hole through the section at the 1/2 inch mark with the portable drill.
Turn the section over. Insert the tip of the LED bulb into the hole. Apply bonding glue around the bulb to cement it to the section of the clip. Let the bonding glue set for the amount of time specified in the instructions that accompany it.
Heat up a soldering iron for 5 minutes. Solder the exposed end of the black wire from the battery connector to the end of the longer of the two conductive pins attached to the LED. Let the solder cool for a minute.
Solder the exposed end of the other wire from the battery connector to the end of the other conductive pin. Let the solder cool for a minute. Unplug the soldering iron. Wrap a strip of electrical tape around each of the conductive pines where the wires are soldered onto them.
Run the wires from the battery connector down the length of the section of the clip. Tape the wires to the bottom of the clip with a strip of electrical tape. Turn the section of the clip over. Place the other section of the clip back on the one you have just modified. Reattach the screws.
Load the pellets into the clip. Place the clip back into the bottom of the replica pellet gun. Connect the contacts on the battery to the battery connector's contacts. Tape the battery to the outside of the gun butt with a strip of masking tape. Let 5 minutes pass before continuing.
Go outside in your backyard when it is dark. Aim the replica gun at a bush so the pellet won't ricochet. Check that there is no one near the bush that could be hit instead.
Cock the gun to load a pellet. Fire the pellet at the bush to watch its fluorescent trail in the air illuminated in a way similar to that of a real "tracer" bullet.
