How to Jig Fish From Shore

Using a jig to fish is an appealing option from both boat and shore. Depending on the season, or even the time of the day, there are always a large amount of fish close to the shore, gathering in areas like reefs or sandbars. Jig fishing is simple, clean and effective for fishing near the shore.

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Rig the jig to the fishing line (See Resources).

    • 2

Cast the jig from the shore, overhead casting with the fishing pole. Aim the cast to land about 50 feet from shore, remaining in semi-shallow water.

    • 3

Let the jig settle for a few moments before starting to retrieve it, especially if it is in a good location. Work the jig slowly across the bottom by reeling it back. While retrieving the jig, give it a few jiggles and tugs to attract fish.
