Tips and Tricks for the Garrett 2500

The Garrett GTI 2500 is a personal metal detector for hobbyists that offers features including target imaging and analyzing, adjustable volume and sensitivity and a variety of sensory modes to help you locate certain types of objects while searching different types of areas. Though you should find it fairly easy to operate, the GTI 2500 providesways to maximize your search based on the variables involved with that search through its features and options.
  1. Discriminate Modes

    • The GTI 2500 offers five different discriminate modes to allow you to search for specific types of metals. Powering on the device puts it in "Coins" mode --- the default factory search mode. Press "Menu," then press the "+" button to cycle through the other modes: "Jewelry," "Relics," "Zero" and "Custom." "Jewelry" eliminates trash and low-conductivity targets, while "Relics" includes targets in the low-conductivity range that can signify nonprecious metals. "Zero" provides no discrimination, while "Custom" lets you modify and set the discrimination parameters.

    Discrimination Notches

    • The GTI 2500 allows you to narrow your search parameters further by creating discrimination notches while in "Custom" mode. The lower scale of the detector's display consists of segments that represent targets of different levels of conductivity. The detector will display all notches in "Zero" mode, while "Custom" mode allows you to activate and deactivate certain targets by using the "+" and "Accept/Reject" buttons. For example, to search for a specific object, scan a similar known object and eliminate all targets that do not match that object. This step instructs the detector to notify you only when it locates a matching target. To return to factory settings, press and hold "Power" for five seconds.

    TreasureVision

    • Another feature of the GTI 2500 that allows you to identify targets to a high degree is TreasureVision. To activate this feature, press "Menu" and the "+" and "-" buttons until the screen displays the words "Search Image." When those words and the imaging grid are blinking, press "+" to turn it on. TreasureVision then displays the size and depth of detected targets as you search. Press the "-" button to deactivate the feature when finished.

    Eliminations

    • Various factors can hinder the detector's ability to identify true targets in certain environments. For this reason, the GTI 2500 includes additional search aids to eliminate sources of interference while searching. Use the "Menu" and "+" and "-" buttons to display and activate either the "Surface Elimination" ("Surface Elim") or "Salt Elimination" ("Salt Elim") feature. "Surface Elimination" stops detection of objects of all sizes to a specified depth, which can prove beneficial in areas containing some degree of surface debris. "Salt Elimination" cancels out interference caused by pervasive salt content found in areas such as ocean beaches.

    All-Metal Mode

    • To search for deeply buried metallic objects, press "All-Metal" to activate the all-metal, deep-seeking mode. In this mode, the detector's "Fast Track" and "Auto Track" features ground balance the detector over varying soil condition, allowing you to let the detector hover motionless while listening for signals. This mode does not allow for discrimination; once you detect an object, however, you can switch to one of the other modes to pinpoint both its makeup and exact location.
