Things You'll Need
Instructions
Open the latches at each corner of the camper top. Pull each latch open until you hear a "click".
Locate the crank within the door at the rear of the camper. Place the crank into the socket and turn it in a counter-clockwise motion until the roof reaches its full height.
Locate the area of the cable to be replaced. Place a support pole under the corner of the top to keep the roof in place as you work.
Reach inside the trailer and place your socket wrench on the lock nuts of the studs at the damaged area. The studs can be removed from the top with an extension using a 7/16-socket.
Collapse the camper's lift assembly.
Attach the 3/4-inch drill bit to your drill. Slide out and remove the lift trim by drilling out the rivets.
Locate the bolts securing the lift in place at the underside of trailer's frame. Remove each of four bolts with your wrench.
Remove the lift from the trailer. Check inside the trailer for possible issues with re-installing the lift, including sharp edges on your pulleys. Turn your pulleys to make sure they are not seized.
Place the lift assembly on a work bench. Remove the anchor bolt at the bottom of the lift assembly. Pull the un-crimped end of the old cable through the bottom pulley. Continue pulling it through the lift pulley bracket at the top end of the lift.
Thread the replacement cable through the lift pulley bracket. Connect the looped end of the replacement cable to the bottom of the lift, and secure it by tightening the anchor bolt in place.
Hold the lift approximately a foot away from the trailer. Feed the replacement cable into the hole at the body rail. Continue feeding the cable until it exits at the hole in the frame channel.
Place the lift inside the trailer, guiding it into place by slowly pulling the replacement cable protruding through the frame.
Screw each of the four bolts from Step 7 back into place, securing the lift assembly to the frame.
Remove the support pole. Lower the camper top slowly back in place on the trailer's body. Snap the latches back in place.
Position yourself under the trailer. Locate the hole closest to the frame. Make sure the adjustable pulley is in place there.
Run the replacement cable through the pulleys. Sliding a cable crimp onto the replacement cable, then run it through the eye-bolt of the hat bracket.
Remove the slack in the cable by firmly pulling it. Slide the crimp snug against the eye-bolt. Make two indentations in the crimp with your crimping tool. Snip off excess cable with your wire cutters.
Crank up the top, raising it to its full height again. Put the lock nuts back in place on the lift studs at the lift assembly inside the camper. Turn the threads approximately four full turns, securing them in place while allowing the top room to move.
