Things You'll Need
Instructions
Place a neutral density filter on your camera. These filters reduce the amount of light going into your lens and will help prevent overexposure of your video when you manipulate the depth of field. Place your camera on a tripod to help steady your shot.
Move far away from your subject and zoom in until the subject is in focus. Move around and readjust your zoom until the subject is fully focused the way you want it.
Switch your video camera to "Portrait" mode or open the aperture to its widest setting. This will allow in extra light and create the blurry background effect. Consult your camera's manual to learn how to adjust the aperture setting.
Film for several minutes and review the quality of the video. If your subject is too blurry, repeat Steps 2 and 3, but make your aperture setting more narrow. Different camera models have different light-sensor sizes, so practice filming and reviewing the outcome to learn what works best for your camera.
