How to Cut Homemade Soap

Making your own homemade soap is a rewarding experience. There are many soap recipes that allow you to choose ingredients and scents to meet your personal needs and preferences. Individual soap molds offer shapes and designs that don't need cutting. Soap that is poured into one large loaf-mold must be cut into single bars. Learning the technique for cutting produces an end result of soap bars that have a neat and professional appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the soap, and divide it into equal proportions. Score a line across the soap as a cutting guide.

    • 2

Place the soap inside a miter box with the widest side laying flat. Hold the bar tight against the straight-cut notch that is closest to you. Miter boxes have slots to cut straight or diagonal cuts.

    • 3

Hold the pastry scraper with your dominate hand, and secure the soap with your other hand.

    • 4

Insert the pastry scraper into the straight-cut slot until it reaches the soap bar.

    • 5

Position your body over the miter box for maximum leverage. Push the pastry scraper through soap.

    • 6

Continue cutting the soap, by sliding the soap bar to the next cutting line and slicing with the cutter.
