How to Remove the Top of a Pop-Up Camper

Taking your pop-up camper with you on road trips provides opportunities for unique experiences and activities. Pop-up campers, also known as tent campers or folding campers, provide protection from the elements with both heaters and air conditioning units. They also provide mattresses for sleeping. You open the tops of the campers with hand cranks or hydraulic lifts. Though a pop-up camper's time-consuming setup can be a deterrent to taking it along, removing the top is easy.

     Open one side of your roof latch. Use your thumb to pull up on the plastic or metal latch until it clicks. Repeat this process on each opposite corner of your roof.

     Reach inside the rear door and retrieve the crank. Place the crank into the socket.

     Turn the crank counterclockwise, raising the roof. Continue turning the crank until it stops.

   • 4

     Lift the camper top off and proceed with setup.
