How to Flip a Coin In-Between Your Fingers

Coins are used in some of the oldest forms of magic, and nearly all magicians have performed some type of coin trick. While flipping a coin between your fingers is not necessarily a sleight-of-hand trick, it is often used by magicians to distract the audience in preparation for another trick, such as turning one coin into two. Learning to flip a coin between your fingers requires patience. You may not get it the first time, but keep practicing and you'll learn to move the coin with ease.

Place the flat surface of your coin on the pad of your thumb and hold it there until it feels balanced. Bend the remaining four fingers to make a fist with the flat part of your fingers, near the knuckles, pointing up.

    • 2

Bend your thumb joint to place the flat surface of the coin on the flat part of your index finger.

    • 3

Lift your middle finger slightly to catch the edge of the coin and bring it back down, pulling the coin down and over to land on the flat part of your middle finger.

    • 4

Lift your ring finger slightly to catch the edge of the coin and bring it back down, pulling the coin down and over again to land on the flat part of your ring finger this time.

    • 5

Lift your pinky finger and slightly widen the gap between your pinky and ring fingers. Bring your pinky back down, pulling the coin edge down into the crack between your ring and pinky fingers.

    • 6

Bring your thumb over underneath your pinky finger and let the coin drop down between your pinky and ring fingers to land on the flat pad of your thumb. Repeat the steps to flip the coin through your fingers again.
