How to Curve a Bow

Archery is an ancient defense and art form, with the earliest arrowheads dating back to before 25,000 B.C. Similarly, the oldest known bow dates between 8,000 B.C. and 6,000 B.C. Archery enthusiasts today can continue this tradition of handcrafted bows by making and curving their own bow. Curving your bow requires only a few steps and can be used to customize the exact bend of your bow.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bow over a large pot of rapidly bowling water. Lay a piece of tinfoil over the bow and then loosely bend the foil around the pot.

    • 2

Leave the bow in place for about half an hour. Too long will make the bow too wet and ruin it, while not long enough will keep the bow too cool to bend.

    • 3

Pick up the bow using oven mitts and then sit down.

    • 4

Hold potholders over the front of your knees and keep your legs together. Place the center of the bow against the pot holders and gently pull backwards.
