How to Make Miniature Leaves

Miniature leaves are useful in decorating artwork, miniature trees for dollhouse landscaping, shadow boxes and many different types of art projects. Making the leaves yourself instead of purchasing the expensive miniatures is a frugal way to save money. Some methods require time and precision but the leaf miniatures are worth the effort.

Things You'll Need

Sharp scissors
Tissue or construction paper in assorted autumn colors
Craft punch
Black marker
Felt
Birch seed pods

  Cut a variety of leaf shapes out of tissue paper that is in the shades of autumn, such as orange, gold, green, rust and brown. An elongated oval shape is the most uncomplicated shape to cut for the miniatures. The tissue paper is useful when you want almost transparent looking leaves to enhance a watercolor or other art project.

  Purchase a craft punch in the shape of a leaf at a discount, craft and hobby or scrapbook store. They are similar to a hole punch but come in a variety of shapes. This is a quick way to punch a large number of miniature leaves out of construction paper.

  Trace a leaf shape onto felt with a black marker. Cut out the miniature leaves along the marks with a sharp pair of scissors.
