Spirograph Ideas

Make a Card

• A Spirograph set consists of shapes such as rings, triangles or straight bars. It also comes with four colored pens: black, red, blue and green. You can combine the plastic gears in a range of ways. Smaller gears fit inside the larger rings, but also can be used outside of the rings so that they rotate around the outside edge of the rings. Dress up a card with geometric designs and intricate patterns credited on a Spirograph. Decide upon a color theme. Use black pen on white paper to make an elegant looking card. You can also make a more modern design by using brightly colored paper to display a black and white design.

Wrapping Paper

• The modern Spirograph allows you to change the color of the pens and make designs that sparkle with colors. Use a large sheet of light brown or white paper. Place geometrical designs in rows or randomly place colorful designs over the paper. Alternatively make a giant design in the middle by placing smaller designs in a circle. Make a little gift card to go with the wrapping paper. Pick the smallest shapes to make a small card. Wrapping paper can also be used to cover schoolbooks. Use clear plastic over the paper to protect the paper.

Paintings

• Make a selection of different geometrical shapes by changing the size and type of gears you use. Use different colors in the designs. Make little gifts of the designs by framing them in matching frames. A gift might feature a set of three to five paintings. When you are testing designs, remember to count the number of circles you make and write it down so that you can keep working on the designs.

Coloring Book

• Simple designs can be created by rotating a couple of times inside or around the plastic gear. Use a notebook and place simple geometrical designs, one on each page. Use pens, watercolors or crayons to enhance the geometrical patterns. Color in certain section of the designs -- such as, one color in the middle -- or enhance certain lines in the design to make them stand out. Choose a notebook and make a little gift book with your own Spirograph designs. Leave one page blank and write a poem or nursery rhyme on the opposite side.
