How to Install RCS

Traditionally, model trains were controlled from a mounted control panel near the track layout. However, the Radio Control System (RCS) allows you to remotely control your locomotive from any nearby location using radio signals. Learn how to install your RCS system to ensure proper functionality and to get the most from your RCS enhanced train.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use the screwdriver to remove the outer shell of the train, then pull the body off the chassis to expose the inner mechanics and electronics of the locomotive.

    • 2

Disconnect the motor (orange and gray) from the stock electronics, then plug it into the inputs labeled 'M' on the RCS (orange plugs closest to the edge). Plug the four-pronged input of the RCS into the four-pronged input of the ECL-DEC. Plug the batteries' red and black wires into the positive (red) and negative (black) inputs on the RCS.

    • 3

Insert a frequency crystal into one of the six Plug RX inputs on the ECL-DEC. Install the ECL-DEC, RCS and battery pack into the locomotive. They can be located anywhere in the train, so fit them in a customized manner.

    • 4

Close the locomotive body shell, then secure it with the mounting screws. The RCS should now be installed and ready to use.

    • 5

Place the train on the track and then turn on the hand-held transmitter and the locomotive to use your new RCS. Move the joysticks on the transmitter to move the train.
