How to Look After a Snorkeling Mask

Looking after a snorkeling mask appropriately keeps it looking as new as the day you bought it. Proper care ensures the mask can last for many years. New masks often contain an oily residue that requires removal. After that, a snorkeling mask requires regular cleaning and an appropriate storage location for the best protection from harmful Sun rays, dirt buildup and harsh, saltwater deposits.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply warm water and a squirt of a mild liquid dishwashing detergent to the mask after you first purchase it.

    • 2

Rub the mask, particularly the lenses, with a soft cloth until it appears clean.

    • 3

Rinse the mask with clean water until all the soap residue is removed.

    • 4

Place the snorkeling mask in a protective plastic case or mask bag for transporting it. These bags are often provided when you purchase the mask or purchase one separately. Keeping the mask in a bag or case protects the lenses from becoming scratched as well as protects the mask from other damage.

    • 5

Check the mask for tears or other damage when you remove it from its case and every time after you use the mask.

    • 6

Soak the mask in warm soapy water each time after you use it.

    • 7

Wipe the mask with a clean cloth. Scrub the mask with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove tougher, saltwater deposits or dirt buildup.

    • 8

Rinse the mask with clean water to remove any leftover soap residue.

    • 9

Place the mask back in its storage container. Keep the mask stored in a cool, dry location out of the sunlight to preserve the life of the mask.
