How to Drop on Your Back in a Breakdance

The move at the end of a breakdance set where a dancer drops directly to his back is called a Suicide. The Suicide drop is considered the most performed and the most dangerous move in breakdancing because the dancer transitions from being on his feet to his back in one fluid forward motion. Suicide moves are generally performed by dancers for dramatic effect in order to indicate to the audience that the performer is so exhausted by his incredible dancing that he has given up and fallen to the floor in a heap. Due to the risk of injury involved with performing this move, it should only be attempted by people with previous experience in dance, gymnastics or tumbling.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a gym mat in directly in front of you. This will provide a soft landing for your suicide move.

    • 2

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lift your right leg off the ground, and place your left arm out at 9 o'clock and your right arm out at 3 o'clock to maintain your balance.

    • 3

Kick your right leg out directly in front of you keeping your leg straight, and then swing your right leg back as hard as you can to a 45 degree angle. This builds up momentum for the forward rotation.

    • 4

Jump forward off your left leg when your right leg reaches a 45 degree angle behind you. Tuck your chin to your chest to help you rotate forward until you land on your back. You should have rotated far enough to land on the middle section of your back and avoid your neck completely.
