How to Get Sponsorship From Companies

Race cars are covered in logos and golfers wear attire emblazoned with brands, all in the name of sponsorship. Sponsorships typically provide materials or services at little to no cost for participants in a wide array of activities. However, you need not always be a professional to gain sponsorships. Whether you're looking to advance your opportunities in sports, film or a charity venture, sponsorships allow you to bring in the required funding and goods in exchange for promotion of your sponsors.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the available sponsorship options for your specific needs. While cash or the full exchange of goods or services may seem like the most logical sponsorship course, seek out creative sponsorships in a wide range of values to increase the probability of success in securing sponsors.

    • 2

Keep a log of each potential sponsor's name, contact information and sponsorship potential.

    • 3

Outline the benefits of the sponsorship for the sponsor. Consider what the proposed sponsor will gain from providing you with goods, services or money. Specify what advertising you can offer the sponsor, as well recognition in social media and your personal networks. Look at the sponsor as a buyer of your services, and create a good case for why they should buy with you.

    • 4

Write a sponsor letter to each potential sponsor. Type the letter in a font that is easy to read and include your venture's logo, if available. Include who you are, what you're seeking from the sponsor and clearly outline how the sponsor will benefit from partnering with you. Write clearly, concisely and in a positive tone, with the final version of the letter being no more than one page long. Include contact information and any websites where the sponsor can learn more about you.

    • 5

Send your sponsorship letter to the proposed sponsor's contact. Include a photo, or listing of highlights from your venture to help make the letter stand out.

    • 6

Follow-up with sponsors via an email or phone call after two to four weeks if you have not heard back yet. However, do not follow up if the company's sponsorship guidelines advise you not to. Paying attention to a potential sponsor's request for communication in terms of sponsorships demonstrates professionalism and your respect for the guidelines.

    • 7

Send additional sponsor letters as needed. Continue to pursue your venture and keep updated materials to highlight your achievements as you seek new sponsors. Network at events and via social media to make your name more easily recognizable as it crosses the desk of sponsor decision makers.
