Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take precautionary measures for night surfing. These include wearing light, bright colors and surfing with a team of other experienced surfers. Develop a system of vocal codes that you can call out to let the other surfers know your status and otherwise whoop and holler so the members of your team know where everyone is.
Know your surfing locale. If you are going to be surfing monster waves at night, you should have intimate experience with the exact location during the day. Surf with your team under the sun before going out at night. Know where the coral is, as an accidental collision with coral or other underwater formations can be serious, especially at night when there is no lifeguard. In a word, be prepared.
Work your way up to monster waves. Push yourself to try bigger and bigger waves until you are comfortable riding out the big tubes. Paddle hard into monster waves and let your adrenaline work for you. Don't pull back at the last second; commit to the wave. Know your limits and always remember to relax, especially when you are caught inside a big wave. Regulating your breath is of the utmost importance, especially if you wipe out. Plan every move, including your entrances and exits into and out of wave sets.
