DIY Skateboard Dolly

A skateboard dolly is a platform that you can use to move objects that uses skate wheels. A dolly can be made to run on tracks of PVC or metal and on a flat surface. To do this you will need to determine what size the platform needs to be and then obtain the materials for the project. Materials that are needed can be found at your local home improvement store.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/4-inch plywood sheet
  • Tape measure
  • Circular saw
  • Wood glue
  • Screws
  • Power drill
  • Four 2-inch by 4-inch aluminum angle pieces
  • Felt tip marker
  • 8 Skate wheels
  • 16 wheel bearings
  • Bolts
  • Nuts

Instructions

      Measure 36 inches by 36 inches on the plywood sheet and make a cut mark with the pencil. Cut the plywood with the circular saw. Repeat this step to cut a second 36-inch by 36-inch piece.

      Apply wood glue to the top of a cut piece of plywood. Place the second cut piece on top of the first and secure them with screws using the power drill. This will be the platform.

      Measure 1-inch from the end of a 2-inch by 4-inch angle piece. Make a mark with the felt tip marker on each side. Repeat this step with the remaining three pieces.

      Drill a hole on each mark with the power drill.

      Place each piece of aluminum angle in each corner of the plywood platform and secure with screws.

      Place a bearing into each side of a skate wheel. Insert a bolt into the skate wheel and place it into a hole in the aluminum angle. Secure a nut onto the bolt and tighten with the wrench. Repeat this step with the remaining skate wheels.

      Place the platform on its wheels to make sure it will roll correctly.
