How to Sleeve a Kite Line

Today's kites are a lot more involved than the flimsy plastic ones that came out of a giant tube and cost $2 when we were kids. Stunt kites take the hobby to a whole new level, with harrowing dives and leaps that take place when you make the right moves with your hands. These advanced kites come with expensive kite line that needs sleeving at the end, to protect the kite's tow line.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire
  • Hollow-core Dacron

Instructions

    • 1

Fold 2 feet of wire in half. Work the fold until you have a sharp angle.

    • 2

Slide the fold into a piece of hollow-core Dacron that is 10 to 12 inches long. Push the wire through until the fold sticks out the other end.

    • 3

Hook the kite line through the fold. Then pull the wire back through, pulling the line as well. Pull about 1/4 inch of the line out the other end, and then use the line and the sleeve to make a knot.

    • 4

Make a loop out of the sleeve, and tie the ends together. Overhand knots work best. Then tie the loop to the kite's tow point.
