Things You'll Need
Instructions
Select the bicycle you wish to convert to a motor bike. The bike you chose will determine which motor kit you will be able to accommodate. A heavy-framed bike such as a mountain bike or beach cruiser will be the safest choice.
Select the size of the motor you wish to attach. Bike motors range from 25cc (lowest power) to 49cc (highest power). If you are using your bike for short distances on level roads, a 25cc motor will take you upwards of 30 mph and most likely be all the power you need. Depending on your terrain and body weight, you can consider sizing up with your motor.
Select the type of motor you would like to attach to your bike. You can chose a chain motor or belt motor. A chain motor will propel your bike using your bike's chain. This is an efficient motor but will disable the gears on your bike, making it a single-speed during the times you are pedaling. A belt motor spins the back tire rather than the chain and will allow for full functioning of your gears when you choose to pedal.
Apply your kit. All motor kits will come with all the hardware and attachments you will need to fasten the new motor to your bike. Most kits require you to screw in only eight bolts before you can start riding.
