How to Dye Orchids

Orchids are beautiful flowers that add a touch of romance and elegance to any event. Unfortunately, orchids do not come in the wide variety of colors that some flowers, like roses, can come in. But instead of spraying the orchids with a floral spray -- which can look very fake and harden the bloom -- consider dyeing the blooms. Dyeing the blooms with food coloring will effectively color the blooms while keeping the blooms soft.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill up your vase with cool water.

    • 2

Add five drops of food coloring -- in any color -- to the water for pale colored orchids. For deep colored orchids, add eight to 10 drops of food coloring to the water. You can mix multiple colors to create different shades, as well.

    • 3

Pour one packet of orchid/flower food into the vase.

    • 4

Cut each white orchid stem on a slight angle with a pair of scissors.

    • 5

Place each orchid into the vase. The dyed water will travel up the stem, dyeing each bloom. It will take about two full days for the bloom to be completely dyed.
