Dance Schedule
The club posts the upcoming dance schedule on its official website and holds dances approximately every two weeks, with some breaks in the calendar for summer vacations and holidays. Additionally, special events such as picnics and a New Year's Eve Dance are held for members to attend.
Raid or Retrieval
A "raid" or "retrieval," in terms of square dancing, refers to when one club "raids" another club. It harkens back to the days when visiting clubs would steal the shirt or coat of the official caller as a good-natured joke. Today, when members of the The Kitty Hawk Square dance club visit another location, they bring a banner which is handed to the other club. Additionally, clubs have certain colors which they must wear when attending one of these events. The official colors of the Kitty Hawk are red, white and blue. You may wear combinations of those colors or wear them separately. A list of upcoming raids or retrievals are also detailed on their website.
Demonstrations
If you are having a party or event, you may hire members of the club to perform an official demonstration. Aside from watching the dances, you can even be taught some of the moves by members of the club. Additionally, The Kitty Hawk Dance Club performs at local fairs and festivals.
Newsletters
The club publishes its newsletter every two months and details upcoming dances and events being held where the club will participate. Important information such as the date, time, location and cost, if any, are detailed within the various sections of the newsletter. The president, vice-president and raid chairman of the club all have dedicated sections within the publication. If you wish to read past newsletters, those are also archived on the website.
