How to Build Your Own LED Dance Floor

You can build your own LED dance floor by wiring lights to illuminate the floor. The type of lights you will need to use for this project are ribbon LED strips. You can use LED lights to create a design or to use as a perimeter border. To do this, you first need to determine how many LED strips to use based on the size of your dance floor.

Things You'll Need

Tape measure
Ribbon LED strips
12 volt adapter
Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions

  Measure the perimeter of the dance floor by using a tape measure. Note the measurement as this is the amount of LED strips that you will need.

  Place the LED strips along the perimeter of the dance floor. This will allow to you to see if you need to add any additional strips to the floor.

  Attach the ends of the individual LED strips together by pushing together the adapter located at the end of each strip.

  Loosen the screw terminals on the 12 volt adapter with the Phillips head screwdriver. Wrap the wire for the positive lead to the "+" terminal. Wrap the wire for the negative lead to the "-" terminal. Tighten the screw to secure the wires.

  Plug the adapter into an electrical outlet to verify that all of the LED light strips illuminate. Remove the wax paper on the back of each strip. Place the strips along the perimeter of the floor to create your LED illuminated dance floor border.
