Making a Rube machine with friends or family can be an entertaining way to complete a household chore or keep guests active at a party. You can build a Rube Goldberg machine by selecting a pre-existing design plan or making your own design.

  Choose the function that your Rube machine will perform. You need to have an idea of the task you want to complete before you select a design.

  Select a Rube machine design. Log on to the Internet and download a design plan from rubegoldberg.com or another website. You may also decide to draw a custom design plan.

  Plan the layout of the machine in the room of your choice. If the Rube is going to be large, you should choose a room big enough to house the contraption.

  Gather the materials and supplies. Purchase or find the materials needed to complete the Rube. Decide which tools are needed to build the machine. You can almost use any materials to make the machine, such as wood, toys, balls, etc.

  Build the Rube machine. Follow your design plans to construct the machine. Build the Rube in functional sections and test each section as you add on to the machine to see if it works as you envision it.
