How to Attach Parachute Buckles

Buckles are incredibly important to the sport of parachuting, as they are the fasteners that allow the protective equipment to be attached to the parachuter. There are at least four different styles of buckles used by parachuters: parachute buckles, pass-through buckles, tongue buckles and quick-connect buckles. Parachute buckles are the most basic of the buckle types. They rely on threading the webbing, or straps, through the buckle frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Pass the end of the webbing into the buckle by threading the end up through the center of the buckle.

    • 2

Lace the webbing in a counter-clockwise direction over the knurled bar.

    • 3

Continue threading the webbing back under the outer part of the frame, folding it back on itself.

    • 4

Keep at least 3 inches of the end of the webbing free of the buckle. This allows the harness to loosen some without completely coming off, in case of an emergency.
