How to Clean Eisenglass Pitting

Eisenglass is a flexible, clear window material often used on boats and water vessels. This material also tends to cloud, scratch and pit over long-term use. There are a wide variety of manufacturers that make eisenglass, and each company will suggest a specific style of cleaning and cleaning product to fix pitting and streaking on eisenglass. Instructions

    • 1

Rinse off the eisenglass using a bucket full of clean water or a hose. Remove any debris or excess dirt on the surface of the eisenglass.

    • 2

Fill a bucket with warm water and a non-detergent, mild soap. Detergents are too abrasive for eisenglass and can actually increase damage and pitting, so use a mild soap.

    • 3

Dip a clean, soft cloth into the bucket of warm water and soap and apply to the eisenglass. Make small circular movements to clean the glass. Rinse the entire surface of the eisenglass using a hose or fresh, clean bucket of water to remove any excess soap.

    • 4

Spray a small amount of eisenglass polish onto a clean, soft cloth. Rub the polish onto the entire surface of the eisenglass. Be especially attentive to the areas where pitting and scratching may have occurred. The special formula for eisenglass polish is designed to remove clouding and to bond with the material to protect against future wear.
