How to Tie Up the End of a Two-Sided Loom Scarf

So, you've finished weaving a scarf, but now you're faced with the task of getting the scarf off the weaving loom and onto your neck. Whether you're using a large floor loom, a lap loom or a cardboard weaving loom, the process for removing a woven item from a weaving loom is essentially the same. With practice you'll be able to take that scarf off the loom in no time and tie up the ends to make a fashion statement full of handmade beauty.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the warp threads --- the vertical threads that you started with when you began weaving --- with a pair of scissors. Cut the threads across the top of the loom, positioning your cuts at least six inches above the actual body of the scarf if possible.

    • 2

Cut the warp threads at the bottom of the loom as well, placing them at least six inches below the body of the woven scarf if you can.

    • 3

Gently move the scarf to a tabletop or other work surface. Try not to let the weaving unravel as you do this.

    • 4

Hold the first two warp threads at the top-left of the scarf together. Tie them in a square knot --- cross right over left and tie, then left over right and tie. Repeat this with every pair of warp threads, going across the top of the scarf.

    • 5

Hold the first two warp threads at the bottom-left of the scarf together. Tie them in a square knot as in the previous step. Repeat this with every pair of warp threads going across the bottom of the scarf.

    • 6

Trim the fringe on your scarf to make it even. Choose the length you want for your fringe and then cut all of the tied pairs to match this length along the top and bottom of your scarf.
