How to Longboard Up a Curb

The longboard is the the skateboard's longer, larger, more relaxed cousin. Based on surfboard design, the longboard is built to allow you to cruise smoothly along the street or race at high speed with tight turns. It is not built for tricks and jumps in the way that a skateboard is. For this reason, the advised method for mounting a curb is not to ollie but to combine a set of manuals to bring you seamlessly over the curb.

Instructions

    • 1

Approach the curb straight on at moderate speed. Position your back foot above the rear truck and your front foot in the middle of the board.

    • 2

Shift your weight onto your back foot as the front wheels near the curb. Keep some pressure on the front foot to keep the tail of the board from dragging on the ground. The front wheels will raise off the ground high enough to pass the curb.

    • 3

Hop forward with the back foot as the front wheels go over the curb. Hop forward so that your front foot is now over the front truck and your back foot is in the middle of the board.

    • 4

Shift your weight to your front foot and apply slight pressure over the nose of the board to lift the tail. Keep slight pressure on the board with the back foot.

    • 5

Shift back into the center of the board when the board is fully up the curb. Distribute your weight evenly.
