How to Fix a Timex Expansion Band

Many Timex watches have expansion bands, which as the name implies, expand and stretch to fit most wrists. Sometimes your band may break and you will need to replace it with a new one. Or, you may want to resize the band to make it fit better. Instead of taking your watch to a costly jeweler, you may want to attempt these fixes yourself. All the equipment you will need is a thin knife blade.

Instructions

  1. Remove the Band

    • 1

Place a thin knife blade behind the flat end of one of the links of the Timex expansion band. Gently twist outward while pushing toward the fold in the hinge of the link.

    • 2

Lever the open ends of a top cap of one link with the knife to remove the U-clips from the expansion band. Also open the opposite end on the bottom of the adjoining link. If you slide these two halves apart, you will be able to see the U-clips and pull them out.

    • 3

Replace the expansion band with the new one. Replace the U-clips and line them up.

    Remove Links for Sizing

    • 4

Decide how many links need to be removed to get the band to the appropriate size. The proper way to do this is to wrap it around the wrist and count the extra links, then subtract two. You do not want any gaps in between the links while wearing the watch.

    • 5

Use the thin knife blade to pry open the band at one link.

    • 6

Remove as many links as you need to make the expansion fit and be the size you determined in Step 1. After removing the appropriate number of links, rejoin the two halves.
