How to Waterproof Reenactment Tents

You've got to hand it to reenactors. Whether they are reenacting life in a medieval village or a grisly war out on a battlefield, they work hard to bring history to life. Though some reenactors are paid professionals, others reenact scenes from days gone by because they enjoy doing it. Those who reenact for fun sometimes use their own equipment. Since they perform no matter the weather, they have to protect their often-expensive equipment, such as tents, from damage caused by elements, such as rain.

Things You'll Need

Tent seam sealer
90% Isopropyl alcohol or pre-cleaning solution
Clean cloth
Brush

Instructions

  Clean the tent with the alcohol and the cloth. Some seam sealers come with a pre-cleaning solution. You can opt to use that to clean the tent, if you wish.

  Separate the seam areas of the tent by pulling them away from each other.

  Apply a small amount of sealant on the seam of the tent. Rub the sealant in with a brush. Do this to each area you put sealant on.

  Add sealant to the foundation of the tent poles. Seal the tent's floor area as well, since water can easily enter this part.
- 5
  Apply sealant to any other part of the tent that can be damaged by inclement weather. Let the tent dry for 24 hours before using it.
