How to Drill a Paint Ball Gun Barrel

To gain an advantage on the paintball battlefield, you want to have a gun that shoots accurately. Some people port their guns to achieve accuracy. Ports are an array of small holes bored from inside the barrel that reduce pressure around the ball before leaving the barrel, thus helping to reduce turbulence and resulting in a straighter shot. Another nice side effect of porting is that it reduces the volume of your gun shots. Porting is an advanced machining process, which most gun owners enlist professionals to perform. It is possible, however, to go the DIY route if you have the proper machinery.

Instructions

    • 1

Chuck a 1/8-inch ball end milling cutter into the milling machine.

    • 2

Center the barrel under the cutter and clamp it lightly in the vise.

    • 3

Turn the barrel so the vent rib comes up against the vise's jaw. Tighten the vise.

    • 4

Use the cutter to make the first hole just behind the choke constriction/tube.

    • 5

Set the vise's index to the 1/4-inch mark. Repeat cutting for 33 more holes.

    • 6

Slightly loosen the vise. Roll the barrel the other way until the vent rib is up against the vise's jaws.

    • 7

Position the cutter the same distance from the muzzle, then start the same cutting process again on that side.

    • 8

Attach a fine emery cloth into the slotted rod on a drill. Turn on the drill and polish the ported barrel.
