How to Replace a Realtone Needle

Realtone stereo equipment was pervasive in the 1960s and 1970s. While CDs swept the music stores in the 1980s, many aficionados contested their sound quality and chose to cling to their vinyl. The resurgence in popularity of vinyl records has many people dusting off old stereo cabinets and turntable equipment. Other than the occasional rewiring of equipment that was improperly stored, just about the only part that might need replacing is the needle. Realtone used several varieties of needles, or stylus, on their stereo turntables. Once you find a suitable replacement needle, it's just a matter of a few adjustments to get it in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the existing cartridge assembly from the tone arm. Pull it straight up off the end of the tone arm. Toggle it gently to loosen or "walk" off the snap. Loosen the cartridge assembly screw from the tone arm for screw-on models.

    • 2

Snap off the needle or stylus assembly from the end of the cartridge assembly. This is the piece of equipment that holds the needle in place. Examine the style and obtain a correct Realtone replacement part.

    • 3

Attach your replacement stylus assembly onto the cartridge assembly. Make sure the needle looks straight and the stylus assembly is snugly in place.

    • 4

Put the cartridge assembly onto the tone arm by snapping or screwing it into place.
