How to Hook Up a Kill Switch on a Go Kart

Go-karts are fun for both old and young alike. However, it is always important to remember that go-karts are not toys and that they should be handled responsibly to as to prevent dangerous accidents. One way to do this is by installing a kill switch, which you can press to provide a "quick kill" to the engine by interrupting the circuit. Mounting a go-kart kill switch takes no more than 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

Kill switch
Wrench
Plastic ties
Pliers

  Slip the kill switch's mounting bracket either to the steering wheel or on the frame on the side of the driver's seat, where it is easy to reach for the driver. Slip the bolt through the kill switch mounting bracket and tighten it down with a wrench.

  Run the kill switch wiring along the go-kart frame from where the switch is mounted to the engine. Secure the wire to the frame using plastic ties.

  Attach the ground wire running from the kill switch to a bolt on the frame of the go-kart.

  Pull the spark plug from the top of the plug, attach the hot wire on the kill switch (usually white or red in color) to the top of the spark plug. Place the spark plug boot back on. Start the go-kart and then press the kill switch to test it.
