How to Flick a Zippo Up

In 1932, Zippo began manufacturing windproof lighters. Now, the company has produced more than 425 million lighters. Several enthusiasts of the Zippo company enjoy collecting, selling and trading their lighters. Zippo lighters are preferred because of their durability and high-quality craftsmanship. Because Zippo lighters have a hinged lid, it is possible to open them using only a single hand. People have invented several tricks based on this design feature, such as flicking the Zippo up and lighting it all in a single motion.

  Make sure the lighter is closed, and hold it with your non-dominant hand.

  Put the index finger of your dominant hand directly below the hinge on the case.

  Place your dominant hand's middle finger on the lid of the opposite side of the lighter.

  Squeeze both fingers so that the lid opens, and then follow the motion down with the middle finger. This should cause the Zippo to flip up over your pointer finger.

  Strike the lighter with your thumb to light it in a quick, fluid motion from the previous motion, so that it all looks like one continuous move.
