How to Adhere a Photo to Canvas

Photographic paper contains a plastic backing, which results in the need for fewer chemicals to be used than was the case before. You can take advantage of this plastic backing when adhering a photo to a piece of canvas. Supplies from an art store will be needed as well as some items commonly found around the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Place sheets of newspaper on one side of a table. Place the photo face down on the newspaper. Place the canvas on the other side of the table. Tape the sides and top of the canvas to the table with strips of masking tape.

    • 2

Shake the can of photo spray adhesive for two minutes or until the ball inside is no longer making a loud clanking sound as it strikes the interior of the can.

    • 3

Hold the nozzle of the spray can 4 inches away from the photo, at the upper left corner. Press on the nozzle to dispense adhesive as you move the can to the right corner of the photo, down an inch and then to the left side of the photo. Continue to move back and forth against the photo until you reach the lower right corner. Release the nozzle.

    • 4

Pick up the photo by the edges. Turn the photo around. Place the photo on the center of the canvas. Place a piece of foam board on the photo. Press down on the corners of the foam board using your fingers for 10 seconds at each corner.

    • 5

Place a telephone book on the foam board and leave it overnight. Dispose of the newspaper.

    • 6

Remove the telephone book and the foam board. Remove the masking tape from the canvas. Lift up the canvas that now has a photo adhered to it.
