DIY Surfboard Wax

From sitting atop waves to being banged against other objects in a storage unit, surfboards can take a beating. This can often cause the wax on them to come off from use or scratches. However, this wax is a necessity for surfers to have a firm grip with their feet on the surfboard. Unfortunately, the routine of constantly waxing a board can take a toll on your pocketbook. To economize your surfing habits and personalize your wax, it can easily be created at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Double boiler
  • 4 cups beeswax
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • Stir spoon
  • 1 cup liquid tree resin (optional)
  • Empty large plastic container, such as yogurt

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the lower pan of the double boiler with water, up to the designated line or according to the manufacturer's instructions. Place the upper pan of the double boiler on top.

    • 2

Place the wax and coconut oil in the upper pan of the double boiler. Set the boiler on the stove and turn the burner to medium heat.

    • 3

Stir the wax and oil constantly as it begins to melt, maintaining the water in the bottom pan at a simmer. Continue until it is completely melted.

    • 4

Add the tree resin into the wax mixture, stirring it thoroughly, if the wax will be used in cold water.

    • 5

Remove the double boiler from heat. Pour the beeswax mixture into the plastic container.

    • 6

Allow the wax mixture to harden completely. Use as desired on the surfboards by popping it out of the container and rubbing it on top of where your feet and body will be.
