How to Build a Miniature Wooden Roller Coaster

A miniature wooden roller coaster can be a fun toy to play with, or to use as a small-scaled model of a larger version of a roller coaster. Whatever the need to build one, having the right idea of how it should be built is essential. Keep your roller coaster in mind during the whole planning and building process so it turns out how you imagine.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw out and plan a design for your miniature wooden roller coaster to get an idea of how you want it to turn out. This step also includes mapping out the roller coaster, track, supports, and materials you will use.

    • 2

Use the Plexiglas to lay out the shape of the model. This part is used to build the roller coaster on a platform. Draw the base of the roller coaster using a marker.

    • 3

Create small pieces of wood into tracks and the support system over the Fiberglas platform. Make the lift hill and launch sections using the wood. Add two to three wires between the wood tracks for the lift hill and have them meet at the bottom of the track. Glue the ends of the wires together and let them sit for an hour or two.

    • 4

Create a flat launch section from the wood for the carts set off when going down the roller coaster. Design and build a cart for your roller coaster. You can have more than one cart, but they should be the right size for the roller coaster you built. It should fit comfortably on the track, but it does not have to roll.

    • 5

Super glue the scenery pieces around the track you made. The scenery makes the roller coaster look better. Add paint to the roller coaster if you wish, and paint the top of the Fiberglas as well to look like a ground surface.
