How to Make a Spy Parachute

As part of a children's game, a spy may float down to the ground, using a parachute that slows its descent through air resistance. You can make your own parachute that can be used to safely transport a toy action figure to the ground. The parachute can also drop top-secret cargo from an imaginary plane to the ground for your agent to pick up.

Things You'll Need

  • Handkerchief
  • String roll
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • Duct tape
  • Metal washer
  • Action figure, 3-inches

Instructions

    • 1

Place the handkerchief on a table. Smooth the handkerchief flat, using your fingers.

    • 2

Cut four 10-inch lengths of string from the string roll.

    • 3

Tape an end of one of the strings to one of the corners of the handkerchief, using a strip of masking or duct tape. Alternately, you can tie a knot around the corner if you don't want to use tape. Repeat the procedure you have chosen with the other three corners of the handkerchief and ends of the other three pieces of string.

    • 4

Hold the ends of the strings together. Wrap a piece of masking or duct tape around the ends. Run the ends of the string through the hole in the metal washer. Wrap the end of the string around the washer. Tape the strings to the washer with a piece of masking or duct tape. Tape an action figure to the washer using a strip of duct tape.

    • 5

Grip the center of the handkerchief and pull it off the table. Hold your parachute at arms length. Let the washer and action figure at the bottom of the strings stop wobbling. Let go of your parachute so that it can float down to the ground.
